DRIVERS TRAINING: Driver Training is taught during the summer. All students who enroll receive 30 hours of classroom instruction, 6 hours of observation in the automobile, and 6 hours of supervised driving. Students acquire the basic skills necessary in handling a motor vehicle as well as important fundamental knowledge of good driving practices. This course may count as ½ unit of high school credit toward graduation. Cost for this course is $100 for students within the district and $150 for students out of district. There is also a $25.00 charge for administering the licensing examination.

Each student will need 22 units of credit to graduate from Centerville High School. Each unit equals 2 semesters or each semester equals ½ units of credit. All classes offered are on a semester basis so 1 semester equals ½ unit of credit except for the following:
Band equals ¼ credit per semester or ½ credit per year.
Student Aide equals ¼ credit per semester or ½ credit per year.
Vocal Music equals 1/8 credit per semester or ¼ credit per year.
Students planning on attending South Dakota State colleges should take care in planning their high school courses to ensure they are eligible for enrollment upon graduation. If you have any questions about this, contact your principal.
All students enrolled at Centerville High School must take 6 classes each semester. The student aide program or band will count as the 6th class but they will not count as the 5th and 6th classes.
Students may use correspondence classes as their 6th class with approval from the administration. They must provide proof that they are taking the class and may be asked to provide proof on an ongoing basis. A contract will be written between school and student to clarify procedures for this class.
The following classifications of students will be used: To classify as a Freshman-one must have satisfactorily completed the 8th grade; Sophomore-5-1/2 credits; Junior-11 credits; Senior-16 credits.
Report cards will be issued during the week following each quarter. These are to be taken to parents for their examination.
The grading system is a follows: A - Excellent; B - Above Average; C - Average; D - Below Average; F - Failing.
HONOR ROLL
“A” Honor Roll-3.6 grade point average (GPA) must be attained.
“B” Honor Roll -3.0 GPA must be attained with no grade below a “C” on the report card.
GPA will be calculated based on the grade points listed below in Grading Scale.
