About me:
My husband Dennis and I just celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary. He recently retired from Grossenburg Implement and farms. We have two boys, Nick and Brandon. Nick, his wife Ali, and their two daughters, Harper (2) and Paisley (4 months), live on a farm outside of Beresford. Nick works for Jensen Insurance in Beresford. Our youngest son Brandon and his girlfriend Tiana live in Vermillion. He teaches, coaches, and is the athletic director for the Gayville-Volin School District.
Why did you choose education?
I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher. I have been fortunate to have several teachers in my life that had a positive impact on me, but there are two that stand out. My 3rd grade teacher Mrs. Bonte’s love of learning and strong desire to make an impact in the lives of her students inspired me to become a teacher. She is the reason I double majored in Elementary Education and Special Education at USD (Go Yotes!). I then had an amazing student teaching experience here in Centerville in Roxanne Evans’ first grade classroom. She taught me what type of teacher I wanted to be. I was hired by the Centerville School District after completing my student teaching experience. I just started my 30th year in the district (Go Tornadoes)!

10/16: Cross Country regions today @ Arlington. With a chance to make the State Championship on the line, come out and cheer on the Tornadoes!

While we still don't know for sure that we will be making the football playoffs, there is a good chance that we will be qualifying which means that we would be playing on Thursday, October 24th. This is also the night scheduled for parent-teacher conferences. After some discussion, it was decided to make the following changes:
*Move parent-teacher conferences from Thursday, October 24th to Tuesday, October 29th.
*Keep a 2:00 dismissal for Thursday, October 24th as we likely will be on the road if we do make the playoffs and a couple of the locations are a little farther away.
*With parent-teacher conferences on Tuesday, October 29th, this would be a 2:00 dismissal.
*Keep no school on Friday, October 25th.
Parents of elementary students should use the following link to sign-up for a time slot (https://bit.ly/4gYUIk4). Parents of middle school/high school students are encouraged to stop and visit teachers between 3:00 PM and 9:00 PM.
There will be benefit for Mallory Jahn and her family during the night of parent-teacher conferences with there being a hot ham and cheese meal served in the Commons. Additional information will be provided at a later time.

Information for Marching Band Friday 10/4 @ Menno

The theme last week for library was Fall/Harvest Moon. The Kindergarteners read the story "Kitten's First Full Moon" and made harvest moons with Dotter markers and added a kitten silhouette. The 4th graders learned about the harvest moon, the fall equinox and the different phases of the moon last week. Their activity was to create each phase of the moon using Oreos with orange cream and a plastic knife to cut the cream to simulate the corresponding moon phase on their sheet. The 1st graders read the story "By the Light of the Harvest Moon" and created their very own leaf people! Third graders learned about the fall equinox and why the harvest moon is so big and orange and the history behind it being called the harvest moon. They made chalk drawings of the harvest moon and added the silhouette of a tree. Second graders learned about the harvest moon as well and we talked about the different seasons we experience. They then did Q-tip paintings of what a tree looks like during each season.
