Good luck Oral Interpretation team @ State in Sturgis tomorrow!

A good deed of the day in the elementary was given to 3rd Grade student Leah Morphew by our head of maintenance John Jochims. He said, "As kids were coming in from recess Leah was preventing an argument between two other students and kindly help them diffuse the situation. She showed that she really cared about kids being kind to one another." Thanks for promoting a positive environment in our school Leah!!

Junior National Honor Society member Anna Marohl is organizing the NHS food drive this year. See the attached flyer for more information. Thank you Anna, Miss Davis (NHS advisor), and all NHS students for taking charge and putting this together!

Hobby - Attending all my boys' activities and camping!

Memory:
I have had a lot of great memories but one that was recent was attending the state girls basketball tournament. It was such a fun atmosphere and was great to see our school represented so well.
Why did you choose and continue to choose to be in education?
I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. I think it started when I was young and played school at home with my siblings. I had some great teachers throughout elementary and high school that also inspired me. I love teaching and couldn't imagine doing anything different.

This week we turn the spotlight and give thanks to Candy Bennett! She has been a jack of all trades, a wealth of knowledge, and a fantastic resource to our school for 35 years! Thank you for being a part of Tornado Nation Candy!
Staff Spotlight - Candy Bennett - Administrative Assistant
About Me -
I graduated from Centerville High School in the same class as my husband, Randy, who works for the Turner County Highway Dept. We've moved away from Centerville a couple of times, but we always ended back here to raise our two children. Our son Adam and his wife Amy and son Merle live by Lennox. He has been a truck driver since his years in the Army. Our daughter Robin and her husband Brad Tyler and their children, Paige and James, live by Hartford. She is a Deaf Education and HS English teacher.
Favorites -
Color - blue
Animal - dog
Hobbies - playing with grandchildren, reading, house projects and watching HGTV
Food - pizza
Drink - various kinds of coffee
Memory -
There are so many fun memories, I can't choose. But I suppose my favorite memories are always of working in the same school where my kids attended. Being here with them, and for them, and seeing what they went through, and how they evolved over the years with different teachers and friends.
Why Statement - Why did you choose and continue to choose to be in the world of education?
I had other jobs before this, but when I saw a job opening advertised for the school, I just knew it was a place that would be fun to work and I should go apply. And I was right, it was the most enjoyable job I had ever had. I started as a teacher's aide for three years before the administration invited me to come work in the office. I have spent the rest of my work years here because there's no other workplace like it. This is my 35th year at the school, and I've never once had that feeling of dreading going to work the next day. It's definitely a high-energy atmosphere, and the cycle of events through the year keep it from ever getting boring or monotonous. Things are constantly changing. I've been privileged to work in the same building with so many amazing teachers over the years. I can see every day what a challenging job they have, but they continue to enrich students' education with unending patience. It is inspiring to watch them work with a new variety of students every year. It has also been an ongoing pleasure to get to know all the children of this town and watch them grow up. They are energizing, and their unique personalities remind me every day that they are all special and important to this world!

Congratulations to the following students achieving fall sports awards. Great Plains conference football Miles and Alec, James Honorable Mention. All state 1st team Miles, Honorable Mention Alec. Centerville hasn't had an all state football player since 2005. Great Plains Conference volleyball. Emma, Althea, and Keira; Lillie Honorable Mention.
